Archery has been a part of me for a long time. As a kid I carried around a stick bow with arrows I had made from reeds and sticks. Then I graduated to a small compound bow to which I carried with me everywhere. Many years passed and I did not have archery in my life. Then, in my mid thirties I got involved with a local archery club shooting 3D Archery. I was putting in couple weekends a month helping cut fields, shooting lanes, and setting targets at Redneck Archery Club with Jody AKA Hounddog and Scott. I was having a blast and shooting all of the time. I even went to other clubs and shot their courses. I also attended my first national event at the ASA shoot at Ft. Benning. That weekend was awesome, I was rubbing elbows with some of the best shooters in the country. I spent an Awesome weekend with some really good people. As time went on and I was working a fulltime job, my wife and I had just had a new baby boy, and I was working at the archery club on the weekends. I volunteered to be there and help with the club. But then as time went on it started to become more like work than fun. It was about two years of helping out and the the owner of the club was getting burned out too. So he sold it off and the club closed. From that point on I would shoot in the backyard or at a local church just before hunting season. I kind of fell out of love with it because it was so much like a job. I was still shooting enough to stay sharp for bow season but was it. Fast forward to December 2020.
I have a friend that is still into archery and is pretty active in the community, he is always buying, trading, and selling equipment. He happened on a great deal on a new 2020 Elite Kure bow, he buys it because it is a great deal and decides to not keep it. He posted it for sale and I asked him about it, and told him I wanted it. He knows that I have been out of work and suggested we work out a trade, I repair his 4 wheeler in exchange for the bow. We both agreed that is was a fair trade and sealed the deal. He brought me the bow so I could get it set up and try it out. I picked up the 4 wheeler and brought it to my garage to make the repairs. While I am waiting on the parts to arrive, I set the bow up with a sight I had and a rest I took off of another bow. I put in the peep sight and sighted the bow in for 10 yards and shot a few arrows at 20 yards. Folks before this bow I have been shooting an Obsession Evolution. It is a tremendous bow I fell in love with it the first time I shot it. I have shot many deer with it and still love it. But this new Elite bow is probably the smoothest over all bow I have ever shot. It aims so well it is steady and solid and quiet. The draw cycle is as smooth as butter and the back wall is solid . It took me all of an hour to set the bow up and sight it in. It is a little lighter draw weight than my Obsession but it makes me shoot more confidently.
Anyway my friend Eric invited me to go to an archery shoot with him on this past Tuesday night. I told I would go but that I had not shot in a while and I had not shot this new bow but maybe 20 times. We get to Pike Outfitters in Zebulon Ga for the shoot. I find out it is not a 3d shoot but an indoor 3 spot shoot. Cool, I have never shot one and I was interested. We get there and I get my bow dialed in for the distance of 20 yards. I want to take a minute to tell about the folks running Pike Outfitters, they welcomed me just like I had been coming there for years. They got me registered to shoot and answered all of my questions. If you happen to be in Zebulon, Ga and need something related to hunting or archery including Bow repair or parts stop in and see them. They can and will take care of all your hunting or target archery needs.
The shoot started about 7pm and we shot 10 ends 30 arrows. Little did I know I was shooting right next to the current 2020 Vegas 3 spot champion. Cole Fredrickson. I had a Blast shooting with Pike Outfitters. This one shoot has reignited that fire to want to shoot archery for fun again. It also helps that I have a new Elite Kure to Shoot. Just as a side note, 300 is a perfect score and I shot a 270….Eric shot a 255. He said he was not inviting me back again. But I bet he does. We had a great time Laughing and joking and shooting , thank you to Eric for the invite and to Pike Outfitters for putting on such a great shoot. I’m probably going back to shoot again this coming Tuesday night. By the way they shoot every Tuesday night so stop on by and join in on the fun.
